Choosing The Right Lubrication For You!

Choosing The Right Lubrication For You!

Well, well, well. Who knew choosing the right lubrication can be such a slippery slope? When it comes to lube there are many choices, and you don’t want the right one to slip through your fingers. Did you know some lubes can deteriorate toys and some others can deteriorate condoms? Some ingredients can cause an allergic reaction to people as well. Choice and knowledge matters!

There are four types of lube to choose from. Silicone-based, Water-based, Oil-based as well as hybrid. With so many options its hard to know which one would be good for you. Together, let's look over a few of the details about each one and see which best suits what you need.

Oil-based lubes are a double whammy. Great for massages - as well as fun behind closed doors. This base is great to go on and on and on like the Duracell of lube, small application, long-lasting use. And safe to use on silicone toys. Although oil-based can be versatile, there are some pitfalls. If you are using latex condoms, it has a higher potential to rip or tear the condom (polyurethane or nitrile condoms are fine) which we all know is no bueno. Oil-based can also be hard to wash off. It has the potential to stain your sheets and seats. And, if you do use an oil-based lube the keep in mind, it needs to be cleaned off private parts as well as sex toys very well. The oil can trap in bacteria and cause a lot of problems like yeast infections.

Silicone-based lube. One major bonus is that they are not absorbed by the skin, it lasts longer during play time with little need to re-apply. One major bonus to silicone-based is that it is waterproof. This makes it great to use in the shower or bath. These are also safe to use with condoms. One downside to silicone-based is that it doesn’t work well with your toys! The silicone can break down rubbers and the integrity of your toy and has the potential to stain linens. That being said, As long as its fun without toys this is a great choice!

Water-based lubes are know as the versatile lube, the utility for pleasure with this is endless. Safe for sensitive skin, can be used with condoms, can be used with sex toys, easy to clean. This is the perfect lube for beginners. With so many good things, its hard to imagine there are and downsides. Good news there isn’t but here are some cons (did we just contradict ourself?) If its longer than a quickie you might find yourself reapplying lube more than once, and unlike a happy ending this can make for an awkward sticky situation re-applying. If you were to use this in the shower or bath then we wish you luck, this will just wash away. Small prices to compared to its big pay load though.

Hybrid-base lubes are the ultimate choice in lubes. It is the best of both worlds of silicone and water-based. Lasting long than a water-base but not quite as long as silicone-base. It can be used with some fun in the shower or bath. Great for use with condoms in addition to sex toys. Easy to wash off sheets and toys too! Hybrid lubes are quickly becoming the grandaddy of lube base choices. The only negative potential is if your toy and lube have silicone, then yet again, no bueno. Always check ingredients in your lube as well.

Which ever one may be your forte, #WSN hopes that all of this helps you make the right choice. We have many options to choose from. Let us know know which you prefer.
